It is very picturesque country with: beautiful hill stations such as Nuwara Elia; excellent wildlife parks such as Yala; the fortress of Sigriya; excellent sites such as: rock caves at Dambullah or the temple of tooth-relic at Kandy or the Dutch Fort at Galle; the elephant orphanage in Pinnewala; or the excellent beaches on the South west coast. Travelling by train is one of the best ways to travel. You can also travel by night trains for selected routes in Ist class sleepers and also travel in reserved 2nd class sleeperettes with reclining chairs which are particularly useful if you are covering the cultural triangle of Kandy, Anuradhapura & Pollonurawa. There are also reserved 2nd class seats for the day journeys. Polonnaruwa: Ancient Kingdom of Polonnuwara, Wasagamuwa National Park, Medirigiriya Vadatage. Anuradhapura: Mihintale, Ruwanwelisaya, Ritigala Forest Monastery, Isurumuniya Temple. Dambulla: Golden Temple of Dambulla, Dambulla Royal Cave Temple. Sigriya: Ancient Rock Fortress, Sihagiri; Sigriya Craft Village, Pidurangala Royal Cave Temple. Galle: Dutch Fort, Lighthouse, National Maritime Archaeology Museum, Unawatuna beach. Beach Resorts: Hiriketiya, Bentota, Arugam Bay, Mirissa, Hikkaduwa, Kogalla. Wildlife Parks: Yala, Udawalawe, Wasagamuwa, Minneriya. Nuwara Elia: Horton Plains National Park, Bluefield Tea Gardens, Pedro Tea Factory, Bomburu Ella Waterfalls.
