Recommended charitable organisations to help disadvantaged in India. Action Village India. Web site address: www.actionvillageindia.org.uk One of the biggest problems in India is the migration of locals from villages to towns. For over 20 years, Action Village India has provided long-term support to six Gandhian organisations working for change across rural India. Projects they support include; women's empowerment, training and health (Tamil Nadu), girls' education (Jharkhand), fishing communities rights (Orissa) and organic farming near Trivandrum in Kerala. Another great advantage of donating to an organisation like Action Village India, would be that it is small enough in size to ensure that a very large percentage of the donation reaches the victims and admin costs are at low acceptable levels. Railway Children. Web site address: http://railwaychildren.org.uk Railway Children is a larger organisation. They do excellent work in aiding lost chilldren who are making a living collecting plastic bottles at various railway stations in India and trying to sell them on for pennies. The organisation provides shelters to prevent use and abuse and eventually try to return them to their homes. Our Railway base would automatically encourage us to recommend any donations to them. |
